WOODLAND SANCTUARY

Lacewing started tending to this lush woodland garden in 2016. By earning client trust through regular detailed maintenance and close collaboration, we developed a design relationship as well. Shared goals for this garden include naturalistic pruning, a consistent plant palette, and a more functional backyard space.

In this garden we cultivate several plants that require frequent pruning including a large ancient weigela, native serviceberries, apple trees, and a wisteria vine. We also renovated three camellias to create a sense of ethereal, dappled shade. We make frequent understory updates and transitions to create a sense of harmony and movement in the garden. We augment existing plantings, move plants to better growing locations, and refresh planters seasonally with herbs and cut flowers. In 2024, we overhauled the backyard by designing and installing a stone patio with dimensional bluestone, dish rock, and patio plantings.

The result is an airy mosaic of several room-like enclosures. A consistent blue, green, white, and silver color palette with varying textures creates a sense of calmness. In this woodland garden, we feel especially connected to the Pacific Northwest.
